Imphal, May 10: Unidentified persons today hurled a grenade at the residence of Manipur State Congress Party (MSCP) MLA Vivek Raj Wangkhem, official sources said. However, no damage was reported as the grenade failed to explode, the sources said.

The MLA was also not present at his residence at the time of the incident. The incident occurred when 12 members of Imphal East zilla parishad who were trying to elect the parishad chairman of their choice were camping at the residence of Wangkhem.

The motive behind the hurling of the grenade was not known, the sources added. In a statement, MSCP general secretary Kh Devabrata Singh said the party has urged Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh to provide adequate security at Wangkhem's residence.
