New Delhi, July 02: India today urged the United Nations to play a pro-active role in international price management to protect the interest of developing countries. Participating in the ministerial level meetings on 'market access for rural development' and 'agro industries in rural areas' in Geneva, rural development minister Kashiram Rana raised the concern of rural producers.
He said on one hand developing countries were obliged to allow imports of commodities which offer stiff competition to locally produced items, while on the other products from them find it difficult to reach global markets, particularly markets in the developed countries.
The minister said non-tariff barriers offered a strong blockade to the entry of these products in the markets.
Rana said there was need for transfer of technology to developing countries for producing high level products and for training and capacity building of such countries in systems and standards.
