Indonesia dispatched 1,800 specially trained troops to rebellious Aceh on Tuesday to replace soldiers stationed in a province where guerrillas have been fighting for independence for decades.
The troops, all wearing camouflaged jungle uniforms, left by boat from Jakarta and included more than 400 members of the feared Kopassus special forces unit.
"This is a routine rotation. Nonetheless, they have been specially trained and have to really understand the task they will face...," Kopassus chief Major-General Amirul Isnaini told reporters at Jakarta's Tanjung Priok naval port.

"They must mingle with the people there," Isnaini added without elaborating or giving details of the training the troops had received. It was also unclear if the Kopassus members were replacing special forces troops already there. Bureau Report
