Jammu, June 19: Seeking people's cooperation to end terrorism and bring peace to the state, Jammu and Kashmir Governor S K Sinha today exhorted security forces to "win the hearts" of people and ensure no human rights violations took place.
"With people's cooperation, we can fight militancy more resolutely and steer the state back onto the path of peace, prosperity and progress," Sinha told security forces during his visit to Doda.
He went on to ask the security forces to mix with the people and understand them. "Unless we understand the people, we are not in a position to deliver justice," he said.
He stressed upon the soldiers to exercise extra restraint to ensure that no human rights violation occurred.
Sinha further said during the last decade the people had suffered a lot and required a healing touch.
"We can eliminate militancy in a very short time and for this purpose, people need to be mobilised and pave the way and create the means for restoration of normalcy in the state," he said.
Sinha exhorted security forces to mix with people and win their hearts, so as to go ahead with confidence while facing the challenges of fighting militancy.
Referring to the rush of pilgrims at Kheer Bhawani, he said this year 50,000 people visited the shrine, signifying restoration of normalcy.
