Kohima, Oct 28: The Nagaland Chief Minister, Neiphiu
Rio, today urged Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to
fulfill the aspiration of Naga people to come under one
administrative set-up while resolving the protracted Naga
political crisis.
''The Naga people have great expectations from you. Their
hope for an early resolution of the Naga political problem in
accordance with the wish of different Naga tribes to live
together is pinned on you and we are all ready to do our bit
in strengthening your hand in this task,'' Rio told the Prime
Minister at a public reception here.
The Chief Minister said that if the Naga problem was
settled honourably, it would have a tremendous impact on other
insurgent groups in the north-east as the state is the hub of
underground movements in the entire region.
It may be mentioned that the Nagaland assembly has already passed three resolutions in support of integration of all Naga-inhabited areas of the region as enunciated in the 16-point agreement in 1960.
Yesterday, thousands of Nagas from neighbouring Manipur under the aegis of Senapati-based United Naga Council and Naga People's Organisation staged ''integration march'' to Kohima to welcome Vajpayee, expressing their solidarity for the Naga integration.
