Dumka (Jharkhand), June 18: Leader of opposition in the Jharkhand Assembly, Stephen Marandi, today had a miraculous escape when his car came under attack allegedly by the CPI(ML) activists near Shikapur village in Dumka district, police said. The driver of Marandi's car, who was going to participate in a party meeting, slowed down the vehicle as a procession was moving ahead. Suddenly about 100 CPI(ML) activists surrounded the car of the JMM leader and started hitting the body of the car, the police said.
However, Marandi managed to escape from the spot unhurt, they said. The agitated workers then took a few people hostage but they were later freed, police said.
The activists had been demanding the release of a party worker from the police custody.
