Srinagar, Feb 25: Under attack by hardliners, Hurriyat Conference today threatened to suspend talks with Centre accusing it of not being "sincere" and gave the government a month`s time to check "human rights violations" in Jammu and Kashmir. This was announced by the Hurriyat chairman Maulana Mohammad Abbas Ansari at a hurriedly called press conference at the amalgam`s headquarters here.

Ansari said the talks could resume only after Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani fulfilled his promise of putting an end to human rights violations in the state before the end of this month.

"There has to be a perceptible change in the ground situation by the end of this month. If there is not, we will not go for talks with the Centre," he added.
Hardliners have been attacking Hurriyat Conference led by Ansari for not taking up the killing of five civilians allegedly by security forces in Bandipora seriously.
The Deputy Prime Minister at a meeting with top Army and civilian officials earlier this month had directed that utmost care should be taken to prevent all kinds of human rights violations.
