New Delhi, Nov 01: In the first ever video-conference in which a witness was examined from abroad, California state assembly member Marvin M Dymally today deposed before a Delhi court from Indian consulate in San Francisco in the 100,000-dollar Lakhubhai Pathak cheating case.
Dymally, who deposed as a defence witness denied that he was present at a meeting at Hotel Holorum in New York in December 1983 where former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao, controversial godman Chandraswami and his aide K N Agarwal alias Mamaji allegedly conspired to cheat London-based pickle tycoon Pathak, who has since passed away.
The venue here for the proceedings was Vigyan Bhavan. The former US Congressman and ex-lieutenant governor of California told special judge Dinesh Dayal during nearly his half-an-hour deposition this morning that neither he knew Pathak nor he had ever met him.
However, Dymally said that he had met Rao in official capacity twice - once in Delhi in 1988 and another time in a plane going to Atlanta, US. Dymally also said that he knew Chandraswami and Mamaji.
Initially Dymally was examined by defence lawyer Rajendra Singh. Rao along with his advocate Kapil Sibal, Chandraswami and Agarwal were also present in the make-shift court room.
To a question by CBI counsel K N Sharma, who cross-examined him, Dymally said it was correct that Chandraswami had introduced him to famous Hollywood star Elizabeth Taylor. Dymally also said he had met arms dealer Adnan Kashoggi at one of Chandraswami's ashrams.
