Rain claims two lives in Karnataka; disrupts rail, road traffic

A 45-year-old person died when a portion of the wall of his house collapsed near Pallaker on the outskirts of the city. In another similar incident, a teenage girl died and her mother and brother were injured in a wall collapse at Vitla, 75 kms from here, they said.
Both the incidents occurred when the victims were sleeping and the injured have been admitted to hospital, police said. With heavy rains accompanied by gusty winds lashing coastal Karnataka for the ninth successive day, several landslides have been reported on the national highways and rail routes disrupting traffic.
Rail traffic has been hit due to landslides between Mangalore and Kerala at Mangalore, Kasargod and Kottikular sections. Similarly, the traffic between Mangalore and Mumbai has also been affected and several trains cancelled, railway officials said. Bureau Report
