The Swede, who is battling back after shoulder surgery, beat the Czech 7-6 3-6 6-3.
Rajeev Ram, who once worked as a ball boy in the RCA Championships, won his first ATP Tour match beating Igor Levine of Russia 6-1 6-3.
He now faces ninth-seeded Xavier Malisse of Belgium.
Former French Open champion Michael Chang of the United States lost to countryman Eric Taino 3-6 6-3 7-5.
Australian Scott Draper defeated American Bobby Reynolds 7-5 6-3, while Wesley Moodie of South Africa topped Ramon Delgado of Paraguay 6-4 2-6 6-4.
