Chandigarh, July 05: Faced with a disproportionate assets case against him and his father Parkash Singh Badal, sad general secretary Sukhbir Singh Badal today sought to turn the tables on Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, challenging him to disclose how he managed to repay a multi-crore bank loan within days of assuming his post. "Where have all these crores come from? What are the Chief Minister's known sources of income from which he could dish out over Rs ten crores - by his own admission - for repaying the loan," he asked.

Sukhbir, a former Union minister, challenged the chief minister to make public the details of the loan. Talking about his house in Sector 9 here, which has been raided by the Vigilance Bureau in connection with the disproportionate assets case, he said it had been purchased by his father from a journalist in 1967 and no structural changes had been made to it since then.

"It has only been renovated and the details of the expenses incurred are all available with the income tax department," he said.

Sukhbir said he would disclose the exact amount spent on renovation once the vigilance department filed a suit against him on the issue. "We really want to expose them in the court. Let them come out with their own sensational figures. Then we will counter their figures with actual figures in court," he said.

Sukhbir said the house was open to anyone who wanted to verify the vigilance bureau's claims that it had a dancing floor and lavish items.

Sukhbir also criticised Amarinder Singh for putting men with "proven records of corruption" at the head of the Vigilance Department which has registered the disproportionate assets case against him and former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal. Sukhbir said that if Amarinder was serious about his anti-corruption drive, he should institute legal proceedings against these officials on the basis of reports already available with the government.

"But he will not move against these men because they are privy to the sordid going ons in the chief minister's own life style and his financial dealings," Sukhbir alleged.
