Rourkela, June 08: In a major success against Left wing ultras, a joint team of Orissa and Jharkhand police in association with the CRPF today seized 550 kg of explosives from deep within the MCC-infested Saranda forest located on the inter-state border. The explosives seized are believed to have been looted by the ultras from a truck in the Balang police station area of Sundergarh district over a month ago, superintendent of police, Y K Jethwa said here.
Nine persons, suspected to be MCC activists, have been taken into custody following the seizure.
Acting upon a tip-off the joint team entered the forest and using sniffer dogs, dug a six feet trench where the explosives were found hidden.
Police had found over 6 kg of explosives from the same area a couple of days ago, he said.
