Uttar Pradesh government has apprised the Election Commission regarding the arrangements for the coming assembly polls in the state, a home department spokesman said in Lucknow on Wednesday. Although the state government has so far not given any tentative dates for conducting the polls, the commission has been informed of the important festivals falling in the month of February so that it could fix the dates accordingly, he said. The commission has been told that the festivals of ‘Mauni Amavasya’, ‘Basant Panchami’ and ‘Id-ul Azha’ would be falling respectively on February 12, 17 and 23 which were all important days from the religious and social point of view, he said. The commission has also been told that 740 companies of the Central Security Forces would be needed in case the elections in the state were held in three phases, and over 1000 companies would be required if elections were held in two phases, he added.
