Patiala, Oct 15: A local court today issued non-bailable warrants for the arrest of Punjabi pop singer Daler Mehndi, his wife, the wife of the singer's brother and three others in connection with a case of alleged human trafficking. The court of senior Sub-Judge P S Dhanoa issued NBWs against Daler Mehndi, his wife Daljit Kaur, his brother Shamsher's wife Balwinder Kaur and three other persons named in the FIR registered on October 06- Surender Singh, Tejinder Singh alias Laddi and Harchand Singh alias Dhyan Singh.

A police officer told a news agency that the NBWs were secured as the accused had been evading arrest and failed to join the investigations. The wife of Daler as also that of Shamsher moved applications seeking anticipatory bail in another court which issued notice to the state for October 18.
Yet another court late this evening extended the police remand of Shamsher Mehndi till tomorrow in the alleged human trafficking case.

Shamsher was produced in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate N P Singh who accepted the police plea for extension of his police remand.

Meanwhile, police raided the rented flat of Daler Mehndi in Mumbai today. They also planned to question some film actresses, including Raveena Tandon, who had gone abroad in 1998-99 with Daler and his troupe, police sources said.

Police sources said investigations so far had revealed that the actresses or other film stars, who had joined the troupe, were not involved in the alleged human trafficking.

They had probably joined the troupe in the normal course as part of their professional and commercial activity, the sources said. Daler, his brother Shamsher and their close business associates had been taking in their musical troupe renowned stars, including actresses, musicians and others for leaving them behind in foreign countries, including Canada, after allegedly demanding hefty amounts from them.

The case was registered on the complaint of one Bakshish Singh a resident of Belwara in Patiala district against five persons on October 06 after he alleged that he had paid Rs 13 lakh out of the Rs 15 lakh demanded for sending him abroad, which was not done.

Later, around 50 other victims of the troupe had lodged complaint with Patiala police.
