Ghaziabad, Nov 05: Additional sessions judge C D Rai will today pronounce sentence against the ten persons convicted for the gruesome murder of noted theatre activist and CPI(M) leader Safdar Hashmi 14 years ago.
Nearly 14 years after the crime, yesterday, the Ghaziabad district court convicted 10 of the 12 accused for Hashmi`s murder.

Hashmi was beaten to death while performing a street play Halla Bol during municipal elections in the Sahibabad area of Ghaziabad on January 1, 1989 by the main accused Mukesh Sharma and others.
The activist was campaigning for CPI(M) candidate Ramanath Jha who was contesting against the Congress candidate Mukesh Sharma.

The accused were found guilty after the court examined about 24 witnesses. Besides Mukesh Sharma, the other nine convicted include Devi Saran Sharma, Jitendra, Ramavtar, Vinod, Suresh, Yunus, Bhagat Bahadur, Tahir and Ramesh. Two other accused died during the trial. Bureau Report
