No truth to rumours of Villeneuve deal
Montreal, Nov 14: Rumours coming from Canada emerged last week about a possible attempt by Craig Pollock and a sports marketing company based in Montreal to buy a seat for Villeneuve in F1 but now this information appears to be unfounded.
Montreal, Nov 14: Rumours coming from Canada emerged last week about a possible attempt by Craig Pollock and a sports marketing company based in Montreal to buy a seat for Villeneuve in F1 but now this information appears to be unfounded.
The former BAR driver had a difficult season last year and struggled in the previous years as well after leaving Williams to start a new adventure with his personal manager at BAR in 1999. The results were never what Jacques had hoped for until David Richards - who replaced Craig Pollock as Team Principal at BAR for 2002 - decided not to renew Jacques' contract with the team at the end of 2003.
Knowing how frustrating and deceiving the BAR years have been for Jacques, it is not surprising to learn that the former world champion has no intentions of going through a similar process at Jaguar.
"Jacques has no interest in buying a ride in F1," said a spokesperson of Villeneuve to Autosport. "Therefore the stories in the Canadian media are incorrect."
If Jacques has the motivation to ever come back in F1, it will most likely be with a top team: Williams, McLaren or Ferrari. If no opportunities in these teams come up for 2004, Villeneuve might decide to try other challenges such as the Le Mans 24 Hour race until an opening becomes available in 2005.
