Mumbai, Oct 22: Maharashtra NCP president R R Patil today accused the BJP-led NDA government at the centre for purposely not providing financial aid to the Congress-led DF government in the state for tackling drought situation. "The NDA government was giving a step-motherly treatment to Maharashtra in allocation of financial aid," he told reporters.
He said Maharashtra was the worst drought affected state and had received least financial aid.
Patil said that the 30 per cent of centre's revenue through taxes generated from Maharashtra and was getting only one per cent in return.
He also criticised the Shiv Sena for raking issues like `Me Mumbaikar' on one hand and not using its power for getting money from the central government to face the drought.
Patil said, "the union government has allocated Rs 800 crore to Andhra Pradesh for tackling drought and merely Rs 20 crore for Maharashtra."
Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde had twice gone to Delhi demanding financial assistance for the state, he said adding the union government has 'insulted' the state by not even sending any team for drought assessment.
