New Delhi, May 18: Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd recorded an impressive 270 per cent jump in its Economic Value Addition (EVA) at Rs 300 crore in 2003-04 from Rs 81 crore achieved during the previous fiscal. "This is top performance for the engineering industry and has once again underlined the company's track record of being one of the top wealth creators in India," a Bhel release said
It recorded a quantum four-fold surge in its EVA.
EVA is the surplus generated on an investment minus the cost of capital and considered to be the real measure of a company's profitability. "The surge in EVA can also be attributed to the continued focus on growth strategies like benchmarking against global standards, reduction in manufacturing cycle time and tighter control in wastages," Bhel said.
In tune with its aim to enhance shareholders' value, Bhel has also achieved an impressive net operating profit after tax (nopat) of over 20 per cent of economic capital.
It also posted 15.65 per cent increase in turnover at Rs 8,653 crore in 2003-04 against Rs 7,482 crore in 2002-03. Its net profit posted 43 per cent jump at Rs 635.5 crore against Rs 445 crore despite the VRS for the last fiscal being fully charted and the deferred revenue expenditure on account of previous VRS being written off, thus impacting the profit by Rs 229 crore.
