Putrajaya, Malaysia, Oct 09: Leaders at a major Islamic summit in Malaysia next week will denounce Israel for bombing an alleged Islamic Jihad training camp in Syria, Malaysia's foreign minister said today. Senior officials from the 57-member Organization of the Islamic Conference - the Muslim world's largest grouping - are meeting this weekend in Putrajaya, Malaysia's administrative capital, followed by foreign ministers and national leaders Oct 16-18.
"There will be a strong statement because everybody is very unhappy that Israel has gone deep into Syria," Malaysian foreign minister Syed Hamid Albar told.
Syed Hamid accused Israel being "very belligerent and very aggressive", adding that Prime Minister Ariel Sharon's administration seemed to have "been given carte blanche to go into any territory under the pretext to defend itself".
The Israeli airstrike Sunday came in response to an Islamic Jihad suicide bombing in the Israeli port city of Haifa a day earlier that killed 19 people. Israel has accused Syria of harbouring and funding Islamic Jihad. Bureau Report
