Saharanpur, June 22: After carrying out a surprise inspection, Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati today suspended district panchayat officer and an executive engineer for their "laxity" in carrying out development work in Puwarka block of the district, official sources said here. Mayawati carried out a surprise inspection in Ambedkar village Sundelkhandi in the block and voiced her displeasure over the development work being carried out in that area, the sources said.

The chief minister admonished the officials and suspended DPO Kirti Shankar and executive engineer P K Maheshwari with immediate effect for their "laxity" in carrying out development work, they said adding two months time has been given to the officials to complete development work in all Ambedkar villages.

Later addresing a public rally, Mayawati alleged that all previous governments had ignored dalits.

She also exhorted people to help BSP to fulfil the dreams of Dr B R Ambedkar.
