Helsinki (Finland), June 03: Nokia Corp., the world's biggest mobile phone maker, today said it obtained a license for the manufacture and sale of CDMA cellular phone equipment in China. CDMA, or Code Division Multiple Access, is a cellular communications standard used widely in China, Asia and the United States. European networks use GSM, or Global System for Mobile Communications, which is used by 70 percent of the world's wireless users. Nokia said it would begin delivering CDMA equipment in China by the end of the year. China accounts for nearly a sixth of the world's approximately 1.3 billion mobile phone users. Nokia leads global cell phone sales with about 35.8 per cent of all mobile phones sold, according to Gartner Dataquest. Last year, Nokia claimed a 38 percent market share. The company has some 50 research and development centers in China that employ 4,700 people.
