New Delhi, Jan 28: Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati today asserted that the eight opposition Congress MLAs, who have raised a banner of revolt, have expressed confidence in her leadership and claimed they have extended support to her government. "Eight MLAs have left Congress and have formed a separate party. They have expressed confidence in my leadership and government," she told reporters here.
To a question whether the splinter group would extend outside support to her government or join her ministry, she said they have come out of Congress and let them take a decision.
Earlier in the day, the 23-member UP Congress legislature party appeared heading for a split with six of its members meeting the speaker and expressing faith and confidence in the leadership of Mayawati.
One of the Congress members told in Lucknow that two more MLAs would join their group later in the day, taking their number to eight.
Mayawati is in the capital to address a meeting of the Delhi unit of her party, BSP, to galvanize workers ahead of the assembly elections in Delhi next year.
She said party supremo Kanshi Ram, who accompanied her to Delhi from Lucknow, left for Himachal Pradesh where assembly elections are due next month. Bureau Report
