Lucknow, Feb 04: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati today virtually held the jailed independent MLA Raja Bhaiya alias Raghuraj Pratap Singh responsible for yesterday's killing of a key witness in the POTA case against him and said Singh's was a "fit case for POTA".
Accusing Raja Bhaiya of letting loose a reign of terror,
Mayawati told reporters at Rajbhavan here that POTA could
also be invoked against those striking terror.
"Such persons might not necessarily be traitors," she said here adding that the "definition of terror is not confined only to traitors. It also covers those who indulge in terror tactics."
She said such was the terror of Raja Bhaiya that no one was ready to depose against him and whoever dared to do so, "Raja Bhaiya dealt with him in the same way as he had done with the POTA witness."
The Chief Minister rejected an assertion that killing of the witness was a challenge to her government saying the police could not be expected to be present everywhere.
On being asked about the reported conviction of former BSP member and MLA independent Mukhtar Ansari, she said her government welcomed the court decision. Bureau Report
