Kabul, Mar 30: One civilian was killed and three others injured after they drove over a newly laid landmine in eastern Kunar province, officials said.
"After a station wagon drove over a planted landmine one person was killed and three others were injured," Kunar province governor Sayeed Fazeludin said over the phone from Kunar.

The landmine had been planted on a main road some 15 kilometres south of provincial capital Asadabad but the Governor could not say whether or not it was the work of Taliban insurgents.
"It was a newly-planted mine but I can't say whether it was a private emnity or it was a move by Taliban to disturb security," Fazeludin said.

The man who was killed in the incident was the brother of the provincial water and irrigation director, he added.

Recently there has been increased mine planting on roads used by US-led coalition forces or Afghan security forces in Afghanistan.

There have been repeated attacks, kidnaps and ambushes involving aid workers and reconstruction companies particularly in the south and southeast of the country. Bureau Report
