Hassleholm, Aug 27: Swedish court extends custody for two ice hockey players accused of rape. A court in Sweden decided on Tuesday (August 26) to extend custody for two ice hockey players from a German team who are suspected of raping a 20-year-old Swedish woman. Bradley Bergen and Yvon Corriveau, who are both Canadians playing for Eisbaren Berlin, have been accused of raping the woman on Saturday in a hotel in Tyringe, about one kilometre from the court in Hassleholm. The court decided to keep the Canadians in custody for two weeks while the prosecution proceeds with the investigation. Both men deny any wrongdoings. Under Swedish law, they could face up to six years in prison. Bergen's lawyer, Johan Eriksson, said: "My client is very disappointed with that ruling, of course. We are going to discuss if we are going to appeal this ruling. We will decide if we are going to appeal tomorrow."

Corriveau's lawyer, Lars Endstrand, said: "My client insists he is innocent." The next court session is scheduled to take place on September 9.

Eisbaren Berlin is one of the top teams in Germany and was playing two matches with Swedish teams.
