Manukau, Mar 23: New Zealand come from behind to beat Ukraine 3-2 and Korea thrash Russia 6-0 in women's Olympic hockey qualifiers.
Korea's confidence boosting 6-0 thrashing of Russia in the women's Olympic hockey qualifying tournament on Monday (March 22) means their Pool B title will not be decided until the final day of the preliminary round on Wednesday (March 24). Korea had too much pace and discipline for the Russian defence as they finally found some of the goal-scoring touch that coach Kim Sang Ryul was looking for. Captain Seong Eun Kim scored three times to move equal top of the goal scorers list as Yum Mi Kim, Ko Woon Oh and Jin Hee Lee also got on the scoresheet. The six-goal margin now puts Korea in a good position if Japan falter against Spain on Tuesday (March 23). If Japan draw or lose that match, Korea only need to win against the Japanese to snatch an automatic qualifying spot.

In Pool A, New Zealand survived a scare, going 2-0 down to Ukraine before coming back to win 3-2 and are now one point away from qualifying for the Athens games.

Ukraine used their speed and counter attacking instincts to stun the Black Sticks in a frantic opening 20 minutes.

New Zealand's defence allowed too much early space and was punished with goals from Svintlana Kolomiyets and Zhanna Savenko but local nerves were soothed after Niniwa Roberts-Lang and Lisa Walton brought them level before Roberts-Lang scored the winner.

On Tuesday, Spain meet Japan and Russia play the United States in Pool B while Ireland take on Great Britain and Germany play Netherlands in Pool A.
