Srinagar, July 27: Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to promote poultry cooperatives in the state with the twin objectives of generating income and motivating educated youth to take on this lucrative sector, agriculture and cooperatives minister, Abdul Aziz Zargar, said today. "Broad features of the scheme include 30 per cent subsidy and 70 per cent loan component to prospective poultry cooperatives," Zargar said announcing the ambitious poultry cooperative scheme.
"In addition, 30 per cent subsidy on poultry feed, health cover and insurance shall be allowed besides technical know-how," he told reporters
The scheme has a vast potential as Jammu and Kashmir is still banking upon other states for import of 50 lakh poultry birds, which amounts to an expenditure of Rs 300 crores annually.
Thirty such cooperative societies in three regions of the state -- Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir -- were targeted to be set up during the next two months.
He appealed to the public in general and youth in particular, aspiring for self reliance and self employment, to form poultry cooperatives and register them with registrar cooperative under the J&K Self-Reliant Cooperatives Act, 1999, and avail the benefits of this novel scheme.
