Guwahati, Nov 15: Defying the Ulfa ban on Hindi films in Assam, cinema halls across the state today continued to screen the movies with normal attendance of cine-goers. People fearlessly thronged the movie halls as usual to enjoy Hindi movies of their choice across the state, Eastern India Motion Pictures Association (EIMPA) chairman C S Narayan told.
He said that none of the halls withdrew Hindi cinemas to replace them with regional films as demanded by the outlawed outfit. However, security was provided to some halls on request.
The state government has also come out in full support of the film industry's decision to continue screening of Hindi films with Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi assuring stepped up security in and around cinema halls.
The Ulfa along with eight militant outfits of north east had called a ban on screening of Hindi films from today describing them as "cultural invasion in its worst form".
