Patiala, Oct 30: A DSP,
named in the complaint filed by Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi
alleging that Patiala Police had demanded Rs 1.50 crore to
keep his name out of the illegal human trafficking case, was
today transferred by the state government.
DSP R P S Anand was transferred and posted in the Punjab
armed battalion at Mohali, police sources said.
However, they said Anand's transfer had nothing to do with the complaint filed by Mehdni with IGP Shashi Kant who has directed Patiala DIG P S Sahota to probe into the allegation.
The DSP has been transfered in connection with some other complaints, including one filed by a Punjab University professor Harpal Singh Pannu who had alleged that he was harassed by Anand in a house dispute case at Rajpura in the district, they said.
The order issued by the Punjab Police headquarters said Anand was being transferred following some complaints against him but did not elaborate, a senior officer said.
Daler failed to appear before Sahota yesterday and today in connection with the inquiry being conducted by the DIG.
The singer had complained that Anand had demanded the money while SP (City) Kuldip Singh and SSP Paramraj Singh Umranangal were also involved. The statements of Anand and Kuldip Singh as also of some civilians had been recorded.
