Toronto, Aug 17: Lina Krasnoroutskaya of Russia scored a hard-fought 6-4 4-6 7-5 win over Argentina's Paola Suarez in the semi-finals of the 1.3 million U.S. dollars Canadian Open. Suarez, whose confidence and play improved dramatically after she lost the first set, finally lost the battle in the third and her opponent now faces the winner of the second semi-final between second seed Justin Henin-Hardenne of Belgium and Russia's Elena Dementieva.

Both players, unseeded in this tournament, can be delighted to be reaching this far in the WTA event. The tournament has been hampered by the massive power cut which hit Canada and North America.
