Mumbai, Jan 02: A local court today remanded police inspector Manohar Kadam, the main accused in the Ramabai Nagar firing case, to judicial custody till January 16.
Kadam, who had been admitted to a hospital in Pune after his arrest on December 20, was today brought to Mumbai and produced before Additional Metropolitan Magistrate R D Gate.
Kadam had ordered the firing on a mob on July 11, 1997, following desecration of a statue of Dr B R Ambedkar in sub-urban Ghatkopar, leading to the death of 10 persons.
He had reportedly ordered firing without obtaining sanction from his seniors and was indicted by the Gundewar Commission, which probed the firing incident.

The case has now been committed to the sessions court where sessions judge R S Dave would hear Kadam's bail petition tomorrow.
Kadam's bail plea was rejected in September last year by Justice Jayant Chitre on the ground that investigation was in progress and the applicant may influence witnesses as he was in police service.
