Chennai, Apr 24: The Madras High Court today reserved its order on a petition filed by Janata Party
president Dr Subramanian Swamy challenging the election of T T V Dinakaran to the Lok Sabha on the ground that he was a permanent resident of Singapore.
The order was reserved by a division bench, comprising
Chief Justice B Subhashan Reddy and Justice F M Ibrahim
Kallifullah, after hearing arguments by counsel for Dinakaran
and Swamy who appeared party-in-person.
In his petition, Swamy had sought a direction restraining the AIADMK MP from Tamil Nadu from participating in proceedings of the Lok Sabha, on the ground that Dinakaran was a permanent resident of Singapore and so was not entitled to be registered as a voter in India and contest elections to Parliament.
Swamy also sought a court declaration to disqualify Dinakaran from being a member of the Lok Sabha.
Dinakaran was elected MP from the Periyakulam constituency in 1999. Bureau Report
