UN-sponsored meet of representatives of rival Afghan factions at Bonn is turning out to be a positive one, after initial hiccups. The largest Afghan coalition group Northern Alliance and leaders representing ex-king Zahir Shah have agreed on for interim council for Afghanistan. Y Qanooni, representative of Northern Alliance said that the numbers of members forming interim government will be finalised on Thursday.
Contrary to this full a UN official viewed that agreement on a transitional Afghan government and the proposed presence of a multinational security force may not be reached at the inter-Afghan talks. An entire, full agreement on every single issue may not be possible in this meeting, The United Nations deputy special representative, Francesc Vendrell, told a press conference.
He said one of the major difficulties was the proposal of a UN-mandated multinational security force, an idea rejected by the dominant powerful Northern Alliance.
This issue is of course a very important one in these talks, Vendrell said. “Quite honestly it will need a lot of work. You should not expect an immediate agreement.” The main thrust of the power-sharing talks is the forging of an interim administration for post-Taliban Afghanistan.
