Mumbai, Feb 01: At the Goregaon grounds, packed to capacity with a 5,000-strong audience, the evening chill was out of the air and there was the warm glow and good cheer exuded by the 26 young women participating in the Sunsilk Femina Miss India contest.

The set was made of what looked like gigantic illuminated Polo rings with lights strewn lazily across like stars in a clear night sky. The announcement of the winners came as the climax to an evening packed with song, dance and witty one-liners from the two comperes, Malaika Arora Khan and Aman Verma, TV star and anchor of Khul Ja Simsim.

Home-grown celebrities took centrestage with Bangalore dancer Mayuri and her troupe opening the show with the theme performance ‘Stree Shakti’.

Next came the foot-tapping Bollywood act, Mahi Re and Ishq Samundar. Then, after the search had narrowed down to 15 contestants who sashayed on stage in Khajuraho saris, Shaan and KK came on to pump up the heat a few degrees higher with Rama Re, Tadap Tadap, Nikamma, Bardasht and Koi Kahe.

The tension having been pushed up one more notch with the announcing of the nine semi-finalists, the show reached its ‘‘mane’’ attraction. Beauty icons down the ages — Asha Parekh, Zeenat Aman, Poonam Dhillon, Amisha Patel and Preity Zinta — let their hair down with grace. Designed by Sandeep Chowta, ‘Bollywood hairstyles down the years’ perfectly fused feminine power with mystique.

The show was choreographed by Hemant Trivedi and Anu Ahuja Sponsors for the event were the ITC Grand Maratha Sheraton and Towers, Sahara Amby Valley and Air Sahara, Velociti, Trendsmith, the TBZ Nirmal Zaveri Group, Airtel, Aquafina and Yoko Sizzlers.
