New Delhi, Dec 19: Ruling out more nuclear tests by the country, the Centre today said it stood by its "unilateral moratorium" on further testing of nuclear explosives. "The government stands by its unilateral moratorium," Minister of State for External Affairs Digvijay Singh, in reply to a question as to whether experts had suggested that India should go for more nuclear tests, told Rajya Sabha in a written reply.
Singh said India was not engaged in an arms competition with any country.
On efforts by Pakistan to acquire an anti-ballistic missile system, the Minister said the government had seen reports of Islamabad trying to acquire such a system and New Delhi was taking all necessary steps to safeguard the nation.
Singh denied reports that Iraq had requested India to join the United Nations team of arms inspectors for inspecting weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Bureau Report
