Croatia, July 22: Fourth-seed Olivier Rochus and fifth-seed Fernando Vicente both crashed out of the Croatia Open in the first round. Rochus lost to Alberto Martin of Spain 6-3 6-2 while Vicente was beaten by Dominik Hrbaty of Slovakia 6-3 6-0.
The third-seeded Felix Mantilla, who won in 1997, withdrew from the tournament because of a viral infection. Croatia's Ivo Karlovic, who beat defending champion Lleyton Hewitt at Wimbledon, beat Christophe Rochus of Belgium 7-5 6-4.
