Siliguri, Dec 01: Altogether 65 miscreants and intruders were killed by BSF along the Indo-Bangla border in North Bengal between December last year to November 15 this year, a top official of the force said here today. Inspector General of North Bengal frontier of BSF, K K Thakur told reporters that to check trans-border crimes and infiltration of Bangladeshi nationals to India through North Bengal borders, the ongoing projects of barbed fencing and illumination will be speeded up.
Out of 1066 km Indo-Bangla border in North Bengal, 750 km was sanctioned for fencing, of which 300 km was already complete. 650 km border road out of sanctioned 677 km was also complete. The rest works of fencing and construction of roads would be done on war footings so that these could be completed by six months, Thakur said.
A proposal was also being mooted for massive illumination to lit up the fencing which would make observation and border patrolling easier during night hours, he said.
The IG said that during the period from December last year to November 15 this year BSF jawans had arrested 3230 illegal entrants at different parts of the North Bengal along Indo-Bangla border.
