Lahore, Dec 03: Pakistan cricket legend Wasim Akram moved to strike down "frivolous" court cases against celebrities today after a petition was filed seeking to bar him from coaching Indian bowlers. Wasim, who retired from international cricket in May, is also facing legal action over an Indian liquor commercial in which he appeared two years ago.
"We have filed an appeal in the civil court demanding that all publicity-seeking, frivolous cases be dismissed with cost on the petitioner," lawyer Chaudhry Fawad Hussain told.
A private citizen, Najmul Abbas, has applied for a court order barring Wasim from coaching Indian players following reports -- denied by the cricketer and Indian officials -- that he had been approached to train Pakistan's great sporting rivals.
"Wasim was never offered an Indian coaching job so there was no question and even if an offer was made it did not come under the court's jurisdiction," Hussain said.
"Unfortunately our legal system is so weak that such cases can be filed easily," he said, adding that "once the case is dismissed damages will also be sought through another case".
