Intelligence officials piecing together the available clues believe that the five militants who attacked Parliament intended to cause a huge explosion by detonating the large quantity of explosives carried by them in their car and, in the resulting confusion storm the inner complex, where Union ministers and some 500 MPs were present. According to sources, the car in which the militants came to Parliament had a large quantity of explosive material, which they intended to detonate immediately after entering the complex.

The sources believe that in the melee, the militants planned to enter the house and hold the MPs and other ministers as hostages.
They said preliminary investigations pointed that the car was purchased by two of the suspected terrorists and they had furnished some address of Sopore Baramulla (north Kashmir) in the form.
However, the home ministry sticker pasted on the car carried a different number 3325, while the car's registration number was 1527.
The car was earlier traced to Infrastructure Leasing and Financial Services Limited (ilfsl) but the company had sold it and finally the suspected militants struck a deal with a car dealer in north Delhi. Bureau Report
