Fuerteventura, Apr 26: Christian Cevaer wins Spanish Open golf. Frenchman Christian Cevaer twice pitched in for eagle twos in the final round of the Spanish Open on Sunday (April 25) to win his maiden European Tour title by a shot. A closing one-under-par 69 for nine-under-par 271, was a stroke better than Argentina's Ricardo Gonzalez, who just fell short of back-to-back victories after winning last week's Seville Open, Britain's David Park, the leader for three rounds, and Swede Peter Hedblom. Cevaer, who had begun the day in spectacular fashion by holing out from 137 yards at the first with a wedge and then used a different wedge to pitch in at 16 from 53 yards, needed only pars on the last two holes to go one better than two previous tour second places. His win came a year after completing a medical extension following a 2002 snowboarding accident in which he broke an elbow.
