New Delhi, Nov 22: The Delhi High Court issued
notices to the BJP and the Election Commission on a civil
suit seeking directions to the comission to de-recognise the
BJP as a political party.
Issuing the notices, Justice C K Mahajan posted the
matter for hearing in February next year.
In their suit filed last year, social acitvists including Nafisa Ali, Nirmala Deshpande and Swami Agnivesh had requested the court to ask the EC to withdraw the recognition of the BJP for allegedly violating the declaration given to the EC that it would abide by the constitution, their counsel, R K Anand said.
The plaintiffs alleged that utterances by the BJP leaders during Gujarat riots amounted to violation of the declaration given to the EC and hence its recognition was liable to be withdrawn. Bureau Report
