Anantnag, May 05: CPI (M) state secretary and
candidate for this parliamentary constituency, Mohammad Yousuf
Tarigami today filed a complaint to the Election Commission
alleging that the ruling people's democratic party has
committed mass rigging during the polls by using bogus voters.
In a letter to the election commission, Tarigami said the
ruling PDP has committed mass rigging by using bogus mobile
voters at several places in the constituency and demanded
re-poll in all those polling booths.
He alleged that his polling agents were pulled out of several polling stations on lame pretexts.
"My agents are being pulled out of the polling stations on the pretext that the candidate's seal is not affixed on the authorization letter whereas only the signature of the candidate is needed on the letter," he said.
"In one case," he claimed, "about eight persons forcibly entered a polling booth in Kanji Gund in Homshalibugh assembly segment to commit rigging."
It was surprising that PDP strongholds were generally peaceful while there was trouble in the opposition stronghold and it seems the ruling party is working on a plan to ensure low voter turnout in the opposition bastions, he alleged.
Tarigami is pitted against PDP supremo Mehbooba Mufti and National Conference candidate Mehboob Baig in this prestigious south Kashmir constituency.
