New Delhi, Oct 30: The Election Commission today
asked observers in the five states going to polls shortly to
keep their "eyes and ears open" and enforce the model code of
conduct "more strictly."
Briefing nearly 500 poll officers gathered here, Chief
Election Commissioner J M Lyngdoh said they should be firm and
perform their duties fearlessly as they were working directly
under the Commission.
Lyngdoh had recently said the commission was receiving a large number of poll related complaints from poll-bound Mizoram, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Delhi.
The special focus of the Commission would be on scrutiny of accounts of candidates by the observers to ensure that expenses were confined to the prescribed limits, the Commission said in a press note after the meeting.
