Kolkata, Nov 14: Altogether 90 competitors including top three Indian PGA tour players Mukesh Kumar, Feroze Ali and Digvijay Singh would take part in the city leg of Rs 8-lakh royal challenge grand prix which tees off here on November 19. Scheduled to be held at the Tollygunge club, the tournament - an official event on the Hero Honda golf tour - concludes with a star-studded pro-am on November 23 featuring celebrated former West Indies Cricketer Gordon Greenidge and Indian tennis star Leander Paes as also the creme de la creme of the corporate world.
The Kolkata event forms the second leg of the four leg grand prix, the first having been played in Delhi, Ravi Krishnan, managing director of IMG-TWI, organisers of the tournament, told newspersons. Four others in the top ten of the order of merit - Ashok Kumar (seventh), Shiv Prakash (eighth), S S P Chaurasia (ninth) and Uttam Mundi (tenth) - would also fight for honours.
City leg title holders Rafiq Ali, twice Indian open winner Ali Sher, promising Rahil Gangjee, Zai Kipgen and Indrajit Bhalotia are among the other golfers who have confirmed participation.
The winner would get a purse of Rs 1,33,280 while the runner-up will receive Rs 89,600. As an additional incentive, the two top prize winners across the four grand prix would qualify to represent India inthe royal challenge international match on March 25 next year in Delhi, which has a winner`s purse of US $8,000 and the runners up cheque of US $4,000.
