Bangalore, Sept 1: Renowned theatre personality B V Karanth, who brightened up country`s stage and made ineffable contributions, died at a private nursing home here tonight after battling cancer for nearly three years, his family sources said.
The 73-year old theatre director Karanth, who was diagnosed to have prostrate cancer three years ago, was in coma for the last few days before he breathed his last around 8 pm, sources at the nursing home said.
Karanth, whose illness, doctors said, was in a terminal stage was admitted a week ago and was on ventillator in the intensive care unit since Tuesday evening.

A multi-faceted personality, he was a passionate dramatist, noted actor, director and playwright, combining all the roles with consummate ease.
