Kolkata, Nov 09: The condition of eminent author and social activist Mahashweta Devi is stable and ''under watch'' after discharge from a private hospital here, family sources said today. They said the Jnanpith and Magasaysay awardee, who had been admitted to the hospital on Thursday, was released yesterday.

''She has been advised complete rest and is on restricted diet. She is, however, under constant watch'', the sources said. The writer was admitted to Baharampur District Hospital with chest pain on November 3 and brought to Kolkata two days later.

Mahashweta was suffering from heart problem, lung infection and minor kidney ailment. Bureau Report
