Kolkata, Mar 31: A 20-member CBI team is expected to arrive in Kolkata today to start its investigation into Tagore medal heist, as the CID has failed to achieve a breakthrough so far. At the CBI`s request, officers of the CID now investigating the case and local police had been asked to be present in Santiniketan to assist them.

Experts believe the West Bengal government`s eagerness to hand the case over to the CBI is partly because of the political embarrassment it can cause ahead of the elections in a state, which worships Rabindranath Tagore almost like a god.

The move comes just ahead of a scheduled visit of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee to Shantiniketan on April 2.

Meanwhile, the state police are yet to secure any definite clue to the shocking March 25 burglary.

The West Bengal CID has so far fingerprinted at least 90 suspects, but none have matched those collected from the crime scene at Bichitra. Bureau Report
