Burhanpur, July 19: Accusing the Centre of ignoring the plight of farmers, Congress MP Jyotiraditya Scindia today said that the NDA government was engrossed in discussing "temple and mosque" issues while they were "going through the most difficult times since independence". "Despite the deteriorating condition of farmers, the Parliament of the country is debating on the issue of temple and mosque," Scindia told a Kisan Sammelan at Navalnagar sugar factory here.

"The indifferent attitude of the government towards the farmers has put them in a difficult situation," he said, adding "now the time has come for farmers to take a decision against them (the NDA government at the Centre).”

"If the people of the state vote for the Congress in the coming assembly polls and bring it back to power, it will be considered a vote against the NDA government and that will only ensure their (the farmer's) development," he said.
Stressing that the country cannot progress economically unless the agricultural sector is given its due, Scindia said throughout history farmers had played an important role in keeping the country strong.

Madhya Pradesh agriculture minister Mahendrasingh Kalukheda, forest minister Harvansh Singh, tribal development minister Urmila Singh and MLA Manjushree Thakur were among others present on the occasion.
