The All India Bank Employees' Association (AIBEA) on Wednesday announced that all the employees in the banking industry throughout the country will observe a day's strike on January 4, 2002 against 'inhuman' and 'barbaric' attitude of Standard Chartered Bank management against its employees in Kolkata.
The decision to go in for an all India strike was taken in an extented officer-bearers' meeting, AIBEA general secretary Tarakeswar Chakraborti said. Chakraborty said the detailed strategy for the proposed strike would be announced on Thursday in presence of United Forum of Bank Union (UFBU) convenor S R Sengupta, who is also general secretary of the All India Bank Officers' Confederation (AIBOC) and BEFI general secretary Santi Bardhan.
Meanwhile, AIBEA's state unit, Bengal Provincial Bank Employees' Association (BPBEA) on Wednesday staged a dharna in front of Standard Chartered Bank's N S Road branch in Kolkata against the management's 'illegal, arbitrary, malafide and motivated penal transfers of 22 clerks and subordinate staff from Kolkata to Chennai and Delhi. BPBEA general secretary said the transfers were in violation of industrywise settlements as punitive measures for not obliging the management by taking VRS.
