Chandigarh, Apr 24: Punjab government has assured farmers of full supply of water for irrigation in the kharif season in command areas of the canal irrigation systems, especially those at the tail-end of distributaries, irrigation minister Gurchet Singh Bhullar said today. Presiding over a meeting of officers of the department, he said that officers would be held personally responsible for ensuring uninterrupted and good quality supply of irrigation water to all the farmers.
He said the state government had decided to place the entire water user charges collected by the department of the order of Rs 80 crore with the irrigation department directly.
This amount would be used for meeting the expenditure on operation and maintenance of irrigation channels, he added.
